about

I wrote this track after I saw the burnt out ruin of Grenfell Tower from the train window as I passed Shepherds Bush on the Overground. It sparked the beginning line. Brexit was - and to this day still is - a huge and widely debated issue at the time, so my views on that feature heavily in this piece.

Here is a link to the official music video for this track, shot on location at the Barbican estate; one of my favourite examples of beautiful brutalist architecture.

lyrics

This Is Britain Man

72 men women and children dead and zero arrests, I guess none of us are feeling impressed
I pass protests outside Grenfell in that rich address where shit weren't addressed,
Tell me how your compensating the dead/
It takes a tragedy for activists to get really obsessed
But now there's actually families deeply oppressed
And no one cares the DWP are keeping their sanctions and force feeding their tests, all that were receiving is stress/
Fuck benefits
The bottom 1 percent are demonised while demons lie politicise belittle minds to keep us regressed
The other day I saw a geezer on the street with no creps
He said he failed the medical they couldn't see hes depressed
People made homeless and die freezing for less,
No excuse for missing interviews believe it yes not even your death
Well this is Brexit Britain I suggest it's really a mess
They talk about the theft of cash while they keep you in debt/

The Labour core has been appealing for a saviour or
Were faced with Boris Johnson he'll come racing in to save us all,
Next Kim Jong Un will press the button and be waging war,
As Donald Trump applies more fake tan and gets that fake applause/
So tell Esther Mc Vey that hey! It's okay!
Who needs luxuries like food and warmth for living day to day
There wouldn't be no food banks if bankers didn't fuck up newsflash
The people that's responsible are sailing off to new lands/
But damn...
This is Britain man

These Tory motherfuckers are just straight- toffs
You prey on peoples suffering tryinga play- God
I can't afford to fly out of London and take- off
Displaced lost while they i.d your face- off/
It can occasionally feel like your drowning in your own body
Grey estates no money who plays it straight? No body
This cut throat life is so bloody
depressing and still the purists chat We need a hard Brexit! it's so funny
There was no point leaving the E.U and I'm sure it's fact,
When it's too late they'll look around like where the tourists at?
The media act the people are trapped with pure set backs
The rich and the crackheads get thin, the poor get fat/
But it's alright mate our crime rates decent in the right place
Young uns singing pop songs autotune and hide face
Nowadays they love them sorta goons and think it's quite great
But it was all about about the message that you spit in my day/
Fish, chips, food, spliffs
Sick, kids, booze, pissed
Complain about the council or the price of living it's
The place where you can make it big if you know the way the system flips/
Although I'm struggling I love it here for all it's faults
It's not all cups of tea & royalty cuz that perceptions false
We are a multi cultural lot as we swing assaults
Now meet me down the pub and it's your round I'll have a single malt/
Cheers fam!
LETS HAVE IT!
